Project Thursday: Hexacopter Rebuild
The project of rebuilding the hexacopter has been an ongoing process since late last year. We've spent months trying to buy the necessary parts needed to rebuild it and hopefully make it better than before. Over Christmas this past year we got a new carbon fiber body, and we went with the carbon fiber props as well. Due to the new body we ended up having to get larger motors. Needless to say, we have just about enough parts to make two complete hexacopters. Haha! However, the main one is now complete and flying once again only with it's new improvements. It still has some tweaking that needs done to it, but as you can see from the video and photos it is up and going.
The video that we can capture with this is pretty awesome. We use the GoPro Hero 3+ attached to a gimbal; which allows us to get really smooth footage even if it's windy. This hexacopter setup is more powerful than the last, and since it's carbon fiber we are able to fly it longer than the first setup. It took a really long time to get it rebuilt and ready to fly again, but there are some positives that came out of this because we were able to put more money into it making the whole thing better. We're looking forward to using it more than we did last year. We have a ton of ideas for using it, and think that it's worth all the time and effort we have put into it. We can't wait to share some of our cool ideas that we have to use it.
