Akaka Falls
August Trip To The Big Island
Toward the end of August, I went to the Big Island for work at my old day job. I say "old" because I have since changed jobs. That's beside the point. While I was on the Big Island for a few days, I had the opportunity to make a trip to Akaka Falls. I got off work early one day and had time to go exploring. The last time I was on the Big Island, I didn't have a chance to see Akaka Falls. I made it a point to go see it when I was there. Akaka Falls is 422 feet tall. It was very impressive. The day I went, it was rainy. That didn't stop me. The hike to get there was short and filled with a lot of lush green plants as well as very pretty flowers. It was well worth the trek through the rain to see and capture some nice photos.
Park Closure
Shortly after I visited Akaka Falls, the park was closed for maintenance. I noticed when I was there that one of the paths was roped off with a sign telling visitors to stay off that path. I'm not sure if they are making repairs to that path or not, but I know that they are in the process of doing maintenance there. When it opens back up again, it's definitely a place I would recommend going. It's very kid friendly too and the hike is super easy as well as paved. It's beautiful and something you don't want to miss if you are planning a visit to the Big Island.
