Pineapple at the beach | Oahu, Hawaii Photographer
Dreams of Hawaii
I don’t know about you, but growing up and even into my adulthood, when I thought of Hawaii I thought of the beautiful blue water of the ocean, sandy beaches and all the tropical flowers/fruits. I dreamed of living here as a kid. I wanted to come live on a island first of all because I thought it was cool to live on an island and two because a loved water. I’d never seen the ocean before, and I was kind of obsessed with the idea of seeing something so beautiful. Growing up in a small farm town, it was hard to imagine what Hawaii would really be like. All I had to go by was what I saw in movies or through National Geographic, etc. The pineapple was a fruit that I knew a lot of people ate. My mom made a pineapple upside-down cake that was awesome, and I had tried pineapple. At the time, I wouldn’t have said it was my favorite fruit, but I wouldn’t have turned it down if it were offered to me. Today, I really enjoy pineapple as much as I do apples, grapes, strawberries, etc. We haven’t been living in Hawaii very long, and it’s interesting that one of our first shoots involves pineapples… lots of pineapples.
What Happened To Those Delicious Pineapples?
The photo explains what the shoot consisted of. Our client wanted something that they could decorate their house with that directly related to Hawaii. What better way than to use pineapples on the beach? We lined all 11 of these babies up and photographed them on the beach. I’m sure everyone who passed me by while I took the photos wondered what this crazy lady was doing practically laying belly down in the sand with her camera. I know I got several looks from curious passers by, but I’m used to it. After spending probably an hour to hour and a half taking photos of these pineapples, I got this gem. Now… what became of those delectable pineapples??? We took five of them home, cut them up, ate some and stored the rest in the freezer. Pineapple overload anyone? I think not!
