Confessions Of A Midwestern Girl | Oahu, Hawaii Photographer

Midwest Girl

It’s confession time… I grew up in a small farm town in southern Ohio that you’ve probably never heard of. I spent my whole childhood in Ohio. Up until I was 20 the only other state I had ever visited was Kentucky. I grew up with the rolling hills in Ohio surrounded by farms for miles. My mom worked in a factory and my dad worked at a package sorting facility until he started working in road construction. Family vacations were to local amusement parks, the zoo, aquariums, etc. When I spent the night with my grandparents, I would watch The Discovery Channel and loved it when there was something on there about the ocean and the animals in it. Growing up, I loved dolphins and sharks. I dreamed of seeing dolphins in real life swimming and jumping out of the ocean. All the beautiful fish intrigued me, and all the video of the ocean always looked so amazing. I had seen surfers on TV and wondered how they were able to balance on their board and ride the waves. I loved the water, and the biggest body of water I had seen until moving to Delaware was Lake Erie. A vacation to Cedar Point was the first time I had ever seen real seagulls. I dreamed of seeing the ocean in person. When I finally saw the ocean for the first time in Ocean City, Maryland I was obsessed. I thought it was so beautiful. It doesn’t compare to the gorgeous brilliant blue water of the ocean here in Hawaii.

Relaxing At The Beach

One reason why I love the ocean so much is that the sound of the waves coming in is so calming. It’s one of the best stress relievers I’ve found. Just relaxing on the beach is enough to make you forget the stress at work, school, etc. Saturday was my last day of my spring semester at college, and since I had all my work done I took that day off too. I went to the beach with my family and some friends. Being at the beach with good company makes the trip totally worth it. The kids built sand castles and searched for shells. They had a blast. All of us adults played with them, relaxed, talked and took photos. It was a perfect Saturday morning/afternoon.
