Off The Beaten Path
Old Planes
It is amazing what you find sometimes and this is one of those things that calls to me. I have an obsession with planes and vintage things. While I am definitely someone who highly appreciates modern-day things, I still love something old. This plane is on North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii near a hiking trail and I couldn’t resist taking photos of it.
Backstory
After taking photos of the plane, I came across some information on it. This is a Twin Beech aircraft and normally they are taildragger planes. However, this one (as well as others) were modified to have the tricycle landing gear. Amazingly, the instrument panel is still in tact with is kind of surprising considering how the rest of the plane looks.
Something else that was pretty interesting, I met with a couple of guys that I have a project I’m working on and they know the plane, who the owner was, and some of its story. I noticed while taking photos of it, that the plane says “Polynesian Airways” on both sides in light blue paint. It is pretty amazing the things you can learn along the way. This aircraft was a nice one to fly in back in the day. Sad to see it go to ruin. However, time and the salt air gets the better of things around the islands.
